The bipolar nature of ‘Pacific Rim’

(2013 – Director: Guillermo Del Toro   Cast: Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba)

Pacific Rim had a great marketing tactic. Appeal to the masses as a “robots vs. monsters” type movie that had a big enough budget to steer clear of the SyFy mumbo jumbo. Of course movie fans recognize Del Toro’s name, which adds interest, but every trailer always came down to, “check out these awesome robots humanity created to fight these alien monsters.” And I’ll admit, it intrigued me. Of course I hoped there would be more to the story than just fight scenes, but wanting to see mega fights has been in movie audience’s blood since the first Godzilla. Read More…
